TED PUNTILLO
SOLANO COUNTY VETERAN SERVICES OFFICER

Ted graduated from Luther Burbank High School in 1964 and then went to Sacramento City College in 1966. He enlisted in the Army in 1966 and volunteered for Vietnam. He was an MP in Saigon in 1967 and 1968. During the TET Offensive 14 of his company members were killed and many more wounded. Ted returned to the US and served 18 months with the elite Armed Force Police in New York City until his discharge in 1969.

Ted enrolled in Sacramento State University and majored in Criminal Justice. He graduated in 1972 with a BA degree. He worked for the Postal Service from 1969 to 2001, including APWU Clerk President from 1974 to 1977. He then went into management and became Postmaster of Davis in 1981. He has been a long time member of the Davis Rotary Club, and President 1997 to 1998. to 2004. He was President of the Volunteer Fire Fighters Association from 1999 to 2004. He was elected to the Davis City Council in 2002 and served until 2006, and did a short term as mayor of Davis. Ted was hired as the County Veterans Service Officer in 2002. He has been named Davis Citizen of the Year in 2000, Volunteer Fire Fighter of the Year three times, Rotarian of the Year 2001, and Yolo County Veteran of the Year in 2007.

He was appointed by the Governor to the position of Deputy Secretary of Veterans Services for the California Department of Veterans Affairs in 2008. He took over the Solano County services officer in July, 2011. Ted lives in Davis and is married to Sherry Puntillo and has four daughters and three grandchildren. Ted will be speaking to us about the new Veterans Court program.
